I loved that it can be used on a device or as a hard copy. I like that it covers all areas of social skills that can be hard for young kids. I can see this book being particularly useful in a small group of 3 or 4 kids over several weeks to talk together and try the exercises. I plan on doing some with my grandkids. I feel it could also be useful for adults I especially as an adult liked the chapters on being a listener and how to keep friends.

I love this book. It breaks down often unspoken social rules regarding eye conduct, starting conversations, keeping conversations going, and ending conversations. It also introduces more internal issues such as self-love and building confidence. I do the exercises with my two boys who are 12 and 10. We try to do it every night before bed and it has been very helpful. It has also brought us closer together. My 12 yo who has an Asperger's diagnosis really likes it because it is demystifying codes of conduct that he has not figured out through social osmosis. My neurotypical child also enjoys the role-playing that we do with it and the stories of social experiences that I share because the stories relate to the topics in the book.

During COVID my son was sent home to do school from home. We then had to continue working for home so we homeschooled our son on our own for a year. We included this workbook and another (Anxiety Help) workbook. He thrived and was excited to get back in school and make new friends. This is a great workbook for your preteens who struggle with social anxiety or just shyness. Great exercises and exciting ways to improve social skills. This could work for adults too.

I have been using this in my classroom as social and emotional learning mini lessons. It helps start conversations and offers talking points for group discussions but also can be used as quiet reflections and as writing prompts. A great little book to reinforce skills that many children are lacking or do not feel confident in!

This book is fantastic. For some kids, social skills come easy. For others, like my kid, this book is crucial. After each lesson, we practice the skill, and she's like, oh, that's what I should do? Okay! It is taught in a simple way that works. It was exactly what I was looking for. We read it together and talk through the questions since she is only 6.

My kids are enjoying the activities in this book. We do one every few days. I read over each activity before we do it together, and adjust it as needed in advance. So far, the activities are bringing up good conversations about confidence, expected vs unexpected behaviors, and the work it takes to manage your emotions when it feels hard in the moment.

Using this with my 7, 12 and 13 year old. We gather round as a family and do the activities and it’s absolutely great family time. Last night we spent about 45 min on 2 activities. I photo copy the work pages so each of them can fill out their own. If your kids need to work on their social graces-skills just get this and you wont regret it.

This book is packed full of helpful tips and techniques for children who struggle with social anxiety. It also gives parents a common language to use when helping their children navigate through tough social settings.

Me and my daughter have had some of the most in depth, emotional discussions around topics found in this book. For example, there is an exercise that asks the child to rank their level of confidence with certain social activities. For the activities that she marked as "need help" she and I were able to have candid discussions about how to approach certain scenarios.

It was hard to tell from the description and few pages that were shown on the product page, but this book is for older kids, I'd say at least 10. I could see this book being used more in a group setting, like an after school program or a social skills class. I originally bought it with my 5 year old in mind, knowing he wouldnt be able to READ it, but I do plan to use some of the book's activities for him and his sister. I can tell as I flip through it, though, that a lot of the activities will be for when they are older.

Bought this book to do with our eight-year-old who needs some practice with social skills and it surprised me how much she has really enjoyed the activities. We do a few activities every night together and it’s been a nice way to lead into conversations about soft skills in a playful game setting rather than me lecturing her. The activities are all fairly quick and fun to do together, even my preschool age children like to play along with us for some of the games.

The author’s narration is conversational and speaks at a child’s level. I’m extremely pleased with this book. Highly recommend giving this book a try with an elementary age child.

Last week we got our copy of Natasha Daniels "Social Skills Activities for Kids". The first night of I was able to get 2 lessons done. Let me tell you he REALLY loved the 2nd lesson and we made it a game. Every evening since we started he has been getting himself ready for bed because he is excited to do our lesson.
As a reward we keep going back to Lesson #2 an exercise where he is blindfolded and trying to get around the house (to show kids a metaphor for not having all the skills they may need). He loves this so much! It really has created a ROUTINE for us, a sense of connection and a way for me to get more insight as to what may be going on in my Childs mind. I highly recommend something like this if you all are looking for some way to make connection.

With this book I've been spending about 15 minutes a day devoted to our lessons right before bed time. It really has lifted his spirits to spend extra time with him.

5.0 out of 5 stars A solid "yes" on book for all kids, and spectrum kids

I knew as soon as I opened the book to the first exercise it was going to be a good one. We see a picture and there are questions for children to answer about what’s going on. What do you hear? What do you feel? What do you guess is going on? And so on…

This will be a great book for parents, counselors, and teachers, both for its kid-friendly exercises and because it includes guidance - in short doses - in every chapter. As author Daniels, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker notes, the skills learned (with adults partnering) are easier to absorb in “bite-sized” pieces. She covers a wide range of social skills. She doesn’t miss much and she has clearly had hands-on experience, and she’s a mom, too. She rightly calls social skills “superpowers” and has an exercise where kids can rate their own strengths and weaknesses.

Some topics include starting and keeping a conversation going, accepting different qualities in friends, when to go along with the group and when not to, the three steps to reaching a compromise, telling tales, dealing with dares, table manners, and much more.

There are many gold nuggets that will be especially useful for kids on the spectrum, such as reading body language, how to say goodbye, how close to stand to people so they’re not uncomfortable (body bubbles - a great way to describe this so kids will remember!), and reviewing what someone said to see if they’re being oversensitive – or not. This book gets an A+.
